How to Take Care of Yourself – and Your Business

Running a business takes everything you’ve got. Unfortunately, that may leave little time for yourself – and more specifically, your mental health. That’s why it’s so important to practice self-care. Taking care of yourself and making your happiness a priority isn’t just good for you; it’s good for your business, too. It can help you make clear decisions, increase productivity, boost creativity, and of course, reduce stress.

Here are some ideas to help you take care of yourself:

  • Set clear boundaries between your work and professional lives, such as establishing (and sticking to) set work hours.
  • Unplug your phone after hours.
  • Take days off, vacations, or other breaks to get away from work.
  • Exercise or meditate.
  • See a counselor.
  • Delegate or outsource responsibilities in your workplace where possible.
  • Get at least 8 hours of sleep per night. 
  • Maintain a balanced and healthy diet. 
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
  • Engage in hobbies and activities that interest you.
  • Surround yourself with positive people.
  • Avoid over committing yourself. 
  • Keep your workspace clean and organized.
